Kids&Artorg

Healing pediatric cancer through the Arts. We team-up children touched by cancer with local artists to empower, enrich, and create memorable experiences. Cancer Sucks. Art Heals. Kids & Art uses the power of the arts and creativity to mitigate stress, anxiety, and trauma induced from the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer and other critical medical conditions. Kids & Art provides families dealing with critical illnesses opportunities to engage in creative arts and wellness, effective in distracting children from adverse effects associated with treatment. Our programs focus on giving agency and control in the moment, community building and connection, and helping families feel less isolated, anxious, and fearful. Art is the secret sauce that enables us to make a difference in the lives of the families we work with.

Description

Kids & Art Foundation

The Kids & Art Foundation is a California-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to using the power of art and creativity to support pediatric patients with cancer and other critical medical conditions. Founded after the personal experience of losing a child to cancer, the organization aims to mitigate stress, anxiety, and trauma associated with the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.

Mission

The mission of the Kids & Art Foundation is to employ art as a healing and empowering tool for families affected by pediatric cancer and other critical illnesses. By partnering with professional artists, they provide a range of free art experiences to nurture self-expression, connection, and companionship among participants.

Programs

The foundation offers several programs designed to cater to the unique needs of its beneficiaries:

  • Amaeyzing ArtKits @Home: A subscription service that delivers two independent art experiences monthly to children's homes, complete with necessary supplies and instructional videos.

  • Online Art Experiences: Led by professional artists, these sessions require advance registration and include mailed materials for participants to engage in creative projects.

  • Destination Workshops: In-person workshops conducted in inspiring settings where participants can explore various art mediums like glass art, painting, clay wheel, and embroidery alongside other patients, survivors, and siblings.

Community and Partnerships

The organization emphasizes fostering community through its network of professional artists, volunteers, and partners. It works closely with hospitals and healthcare providers to reach families who can benefit from their services, often through referrals by social workers.

Financial Overview

As a nonprofit, the Kids & Art Foundation relies heavily on donations and fundraising efforts. In recent years, contributions have formed a significant portion of their revenue, with a notable increase in fundraising efforts over time.

Values and Vision

The foundation values compassion, community, quality, creativity, courage, and equity. It envisions an integrated care model where art participation is a standard part of treatment plans for pediatric patients.

By combining art therapy with community engagement, the Kids & Art Foundation strives to bring joy and normalcy into the lives of families coping with serious health issues.
