AB 478 (Zbur), The FOUND Act, Friends of Oreo Uniting During Disasters Act, ensures that pet parents can rescue their animals left behind in evacuated areas. This bill responds to the inadequate action taken for residents in the LA fire zones who had animals in the evacuation areas that perished or had to be rescued without permission from authorities. Today, the bill passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee unanimously! “Despite current law granting students the right to opt out of dissection, many students—and even their teachers—are unaware of this right,” said Judie Mancuso, Founder and President of Social Compassion in Legislation, cosponsor of the bill. “With passage of AB 347, we anticipate a significant increase in the number of students opting out of animal dissection, thereby reducing the number of animals used in this outdated teaching model.” In this video you also get an inside peek into how excited Judie (and all of us) get when a bill passes a big hurdle.
