The Wong-Baker Faces Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting optimal pain assessment, pain management, and atraumatic care. It was established in 2009 by Connie Baker to protect the integrity of the Wong-Baker FACES® Pain Rating Scale, a tool she developed alongside Donna Wong in 1983.
History
The Wong-Baker FACES® Pain Rating Scale was created to help children effectively communicate their pain levels. Initially, the scale was designed for pediatric use, but its application has expanded to individuals aged three and older. The scale uses a series of faces to represent different levels of pain, from no pain to worst pain, providing a simple yet effective method for assessing pain intensity.
