The Contemporary Theater Company

Overview

The Contemporary Theater Company is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Founded by Artistic Director Christopher J. Simpson in 2005, the company began as The Courthouse Summer Theater Company and later renamed itself The Contemporary Theater Company in 2009. It aims to promote a culture of inclusivity, support, ambition, playfulness, and kindness through artistic excellence.

History

Initially, the company presented productions under the name The Courthouse Theater Company at the Courthouse Center for the Arts until the end of 2007. Notable changes included the move to its current location in Wakefield in 2012, where the company purchased its main theater space and underwent renovations. In January 2021, Tammy Brown was promoted to Artistic Director, although she resigned in July 2024.

Mission

The company's mission is to build a vibrant community by fostering artistic connections and inspiring growth among people of all backgrounds and experience levels. It achieves this through a diverse range of scripted and improvised performances, concerts, and community events.
