Bat Fest is coming up at the end of the month, but if you're looking for an event just for grown ups, head to the Arboretum on Saturday, September 13 for Going Batty. Enjoy a delicious tequila popsicle (thank you, bats for the pollination assist) as you listen to local bat expert DeAndra Ramsey discuss the important role of bats in our ecosystem as pest control, seed dispersers, and pollinators. Afterwards, we'll go on a bat hike and use special detectors to listen to bat sonar over the Arboretum.

September is for hummingbirds on the Texas Gulf Coast. You’ll find Ruby-throated Hummingbirds at every patch of Turk’s Cap, Red Sage, and Trumpet Creeper flowers at the Arboretum. However, their numbers grow even more impressive as you go south along the coast and you can see thousands of these incredible birds at Xtreme Hummingbird Xtravaganza in Lake Jackson or the Rockport-Fulton HummerBird Celebration this weekend.
