P.S. ARTS
P.S. ARTS is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing equity and opportunity for children and youth by providing arts education in systemically under-resourced public schools and communities. Founded with the mission of filling the void left by cuts in arts education in public schools, P.S. ARTS offers a variety of arts programs designed to foster social-emotional competencies, creativity, and success in school and beyond.
Mission and Programs
The organization's mission is built around a model that emphasizes excellence in curriculum design, fostering a healthy learning environment, and engaging the student's support community. P.S. ARTS provides weekly arts education classes during the regular school day for the entire school year to students in partner schools. Additionally, its award-winning Inside Out Community Arts program supports at-risk youth by focusing on self-esteem, conflict resolution, and socialization skills through after-school theater activities.
P.S. ARTS also offers intergenerational, community events that involve nearly 10,000 students and families annually. These events aim to provide arts experiences for the entire family, promoting a sense of belonging and creativity within communities.
Professional Development and Integration
Teaching Artists with P.S. ARTS receive a minimum of 20 hours of professional development each year, ensuring they are well-equipped to deliver high-quality arts education. The organization also offers Arts Integration Coaching to classroom teachers, enhancing their ability to integrate arts into their curriculum effectively.
Recognition and Impact
P.S. ARTS has received national recognition for its contributions to arts education, including a National Arts Award in 2014 for advancing arts education. The organization serves approximately 25,000 students weekly, making it a significant player in enriching the educational landscape of under-resourced communities.
Strategic Partnerships
P.S. ARTS benefits from strategic guidance provided by a diverse Advisory ARTS Council, composed of accomplished professionals from the arts and cultural communities. This council helps in planning and enhancing P.S. ARTS initiatives, fostering collaboration and furthering its transformative reach in arts education across schools and districts.
Finance and Support
As a nonprofit organization, P.S. ARTS relies on donations to sustain its operations and expand its reach. Supporters can contribute to its mission through donations, which are tax-deductible, helping ensure that arts education remains accessible to those who might otherwise be deprived of it.

We’re so grateful to our friends at Nickelodeon Community Efforts (NiCE), who recently donated hundreds of high-quality art kits to students and families in P.S. ARTS program who were impacted by the L.A. wildfires earlier this year. Many thanks to @Nickelodeon and #NickCommunityEfforts for helping our communities heal through the power of art. To close out our series on #AAPI Month, we’re highlighting Lauren Yee. Born and raised in San Francisco, Yee is a playwright and screenwriter currently living in New York City. Her latest work, “Cambodian Rock Band,” saw its LA premier at East West Players this past spring. Cambodian Rock Band, featuring music by L.A. band Dengue Fever, is a part-play, part-rock concert that explores the story of a Khmer Rouge survivor as he returns to Cambodia after 30 long years. As his daughter prepares to prosecute one of the country's most notorious war criminals, the ghosts of their shared past begin to stir. This deeply moving story weaves back and forth through time as father and daughter confront history, turning to music as a path towards healing.
