PENNSYLVANIA RR TECHNICAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY LONG ISLAND CHAPTER Riding the Rails of History Honoring Pennsylvania RRs Legacy on Long Island. RestorePRR and LIRR Equipment LIRR 35 and 39 are 460 G5s class steam locomotives built for the Long Island Rail Road in 1928 and 1929 respectively by the Pennsylvania Railroads Juniata Shops. The locomotives shuttled commuters between New York City and Long Island in the years that saw the effects of a Depression a World War and the rapid development of Long Island. We are aiding in the effort to restore these historic locomotives as well as other various types of equipment that ran in the PRR era.
