Aiken Youth Empowerment
Helping Hands is a shelter for youth in DSS custody from all over the state of South Carolina. To educate and increase awareness among our youth, their families, and other caring adults in order to promote behaviors leading to positive health outcomes. In order for our young people grow up and contribute to our community in a meaningful way, our organization believes that: The young people in our community are the future. Promoting healthy decisions among young people in order to prevent teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS is in the best interest of children, youth and families in order to promote economic prosperity in the community. A comprehensive health education approach which includes, physical, mental and social well-being, is an important component of an overall community approach towards promoting responsible healthy decisions among young people. Using research-proven best practice interventions within the community is the most effective way to accomplish our mission. Parents should be the primary sex/sexuality educators of their children.
