Characteristically, judges request trained volunteers (Special Advocates) to fulfill the needs of a majority of youth in the abuse/neglect sysem who, for the most part are without benefit of a caring adult in their lives to help them with a variety of issues such as: severe academic deficiencies; behavioral and mental health issues;runaways and little preparation for independent living.
