THE FUND WAS ORIGINATED BY ADOLPH OCHS SULZBERGER, THEN PUBLISHER OF THE NEW YORK TIMES, TO RAISE FUNDS TO PROVIDE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN DISTRESS.
