Founded in 1891, the NSCDA is one of the oldest historic preservation organizations in America. We care for more than 90 historic sites and collections and are an unincorporated association of 45 Corporate Societies with over 15,000 members. The objective of the society is to collect and preserve manuscripts, traditions, relics, and mementos of bygone days; to preserve and restore buildings connected with the early history of our country; to educate our fellow citizens and preserve o our country's history and thus diffuse healthful and intelligent information conerning hte past; to create a popular interest in our colonial history.

We are an unincorporated association of 44 Corporate Societies with more than 15000 members. The NSCDA has been a leader in the field of historic preservation restoration and the interpretation of historic sites since its New York Society first undertook the preservation of the Van Cortlandt House in 1897. The National Society headquarters is located at Dumbarton House a Federal period house museum in Washington D.

Since 1910, the Washington State Society of the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA-WA) has been dedicated to preserving the rich history of the Evergreen State. With approximately 200 members, NSCDA-WA actively promotes our national and state heritage through historic preservation, patriotic services, and educational projects. Their efforts include preserving colonial-era documents, supporting the restoration of historic homes, and awarding grants for preservation projects across Washington.
