California Insurance Professionals
The California Insurance Professionals (CAIP) is a nonprofit organization designed to foster social and educational opportunities for professionals within the insurance industry in Southern California. CAIP aims to promote professional education and social activities, with proceeds from events supporting charitable causes.
History and Purpose
CAIP was formed from the merger of two groups: the L.A. Underwriters, which organized informal holiday parties, and another group focused on formalizing charitable donations. This merger resulted in CAIP's current mission to provide platforms for insurance professionals to network and engage in educational activities while supporting local charities.
Charitable Contributions
CAIP has donated over $200,000 to charities, including FosterAll, Habitat for Humanity, Second Careers, Chrysalis, and School on Wheels. FosterAll remains a significant recipient of their charitable efforts.
Events and Activities
CAIP hosts various events throughout the year, including a highly successful golf tournament and a popular holiday party. These events serve both as networking opportunities for industry professionals and as fundraisers for charitable causes.
Nonprofit Status
CAIP is categorized as a 501(c)(3) organization, allowing donations to be tax-deductible. It operates under the category of Mutual/Membership Benefit Organizations, specifically as a professional society or association.
Leadership and Governance
CAIP is managed by a volunteer board comprising insurance professionals from Southern California. The organization does not compensate its key employees or officers, as evident in past financial reports.
Financial Overview
Historically, CAIP's revenue is primarily generated from program services, with assets ranging from approximately $30,000 to over $40,000 depending on the fiscal year. There are no reported contributions or investment income in recent filings.
Overall, CAIP serves as a pivotal platform for insurance professionals to engage in both social and professional development while contributing to the community through charitable initiatives.
