The evening opens with Beethoven’s dramatic Leonore Overture, featuring an offstage trumpet call that adds operatic flair. Flutist Alice K. Dade then takes the spotlight in Danish composer Carl Nielsen’s spirited and playful Flute Concerto. After intermission, over 60 musicians fill the stage as Scott Yoo leads Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet suite—presented in a rarely heard chronological arrangement. From tender love scenes to pulse-quickening duels and the heartbreak of the final tragedy, each of the nine movements captures a full spectrum of human emotion in this timeless tale of passion and fate.
