Description

Fauna Sanctuary, Inc.

Fauna Sanctuary, Inc. is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the welfare and quality of life of captive chimpanzees in North American sanctuaries. The organization’s primary mission involves heightening awareness of the plight faced by these animals and providing resources to ensure they receive the best possible care in sanctuaries.

Established in 2002, Fauna Sanctuary, Inc. serves as the U.S. affiliate of the Fauna Foundation, which is based in Canada. The Fauna Foundation operates as a chimpanzee sanctuary, providing a permanent home for chimpanzees rescued from environments such as medical research and entertainment. Beyond its role in the Americas, Fauna Sanctuary, Inc. collaborates closely with other sanctuaries to promote the well-being and conservation of great apes.

Fauna Sanctuary, Inc. works to provide support and resources to enhance the lives of chimps in sanctuaries by ensuring they have enriching environments. This includes promoting activities and habitats that allow these animals to engage in natural behaviors, thus improving their physical and mental health.

The organization's goals are aligned with broader efforts to end the use of great apes in research and entertainment, fostering a culture that values the ethical treatment and conservation of these species. Through education and advocacy, Fauna Sanctuary, Inc. contributes to raising awareness about the challenges faced by captive apes and the importance of providing them with safe and dignified living conditions.
