THE CHILDREN'S ROOMThe Early Education Resource Center of Waterbury and Duxbury47 Stowe Street, Waterbury VT 05676(802) 244-5605MISSION STATEMENTThe aim of the Children's Room, its Coordinator, and its users is to serve all families with young children in the Waterbury and Duxbury communities by providing information which increases knowledge of parenting and caregiving skills, and by offering support to parents and caregivers of young children.GOALSTo help parents and caregivers:gain a greater understanding of normal intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development in children ages birth to six,learn various strategies for dealing with issues and problems arising from children's growth and development.increase parenting and caregiving skills, and their confidence in those skills, andbecome aware of community and area resources available to them and their children.To create an informal network of caring and support within the Waterbury and Duxbury communities which will improve family life and the future of both communities.While the Children's Room serves the entire combined community, special emphasis is placed on assisting parents, caregivers, and children of at-risk families.THE PROCESSThe Children's Room is a grassroots organization run by volunteers. While we consult with early childhood professionals and use them as a valuable resource, operational decisions are made by the people who use the Room. Young parents, many of them new to the communities, and most of them new to the school environment, can learn a lot in the process of this direct involvement.
