GSSA is leading the charge to protect and restore California’s salmon through three key focus areas; Hydrology, Habitat, and Hatcheries. 💧Hydrology – We advocate for sustainable and equitable use of Central Valley stream and river water at both the state and federal levels. Healthy water flows are essential for salmon survival and a sign of overall ecosystem health. 🌱 Habitat – We push for real, on-the-ground restoration of rivers and streams—not just more studies. Priority projects need immediate investment to rebuild the natural habitats salmon need to spawn and thrive. 🐟 Hatchery – We work to improve hatchery success by urging policymakers to relocate release sites closer to or directly into the Pacific Ocean, where survival rates are significantly higher. These efforts are vital to rebuilding salmon runs, supporting fishing families, and preserving the health of California’s rivers.
