Good Shepherd Creates recently hosted a dynamic, two-day MakerSprint, uniting Good Shepherd Rehabilitation clinicians from across disciplines with computer science students and faculty from Moravian University. This collaborative event focused on developing creative solutions to real-life challenges experienced by members of our community. Participants zeroed in on two key problems: helping individuals put their hair up using only one hand and opening a community door that isn’t currently accessible. Day one featured energy and innovation as teams brainstormed and built early prototypes using materials like cardboard, tape, plastic plates and pool noodles. On day two, one group pivoted to a new challenge: keeping a pediatric feeding bag from twisting inside a backpack while a child is in motion. This shift allowed them to revisit and refine the design process, ultimately working toward a more immediate and tangible solution. Throughout the event, creativity and collaboration stood out as central themes. As one participant shared: “Problems are opportunities and collaboration is essential for thinking further out of the box.” The MakerSprint was a powerful demonstration of what can happen when creativity, compassion and collaboration come together to tackle meaningful challenges — and a reminder that innovation is as much about the process as it is about the product.
