AOII is recognized for its commitment to promoting values such as integrity, tolerance, generosity, personal dignity, and love.

History

The founding members of Alpha Omicron Pi include Stella George Stern Perry, Elizabeth Heywood Wyman, Jessie Wallace Hughan, and Helen St. Clair Mullan. These women sought to create a sisterhood based on profound care and support for one another. The fraternity began in a small room within the old Columbia College Library, reflecting the organization's humble origins. Symbols and Traditions

AOII's official color is cardinal, and its emblematic flower is the Général Jacqueminot rose. The fraternity's jewel is the ruby, and its mascot is the giant panda, which symbolizes the values of friendliness and lack of natural enemies. Members wear specific pins to represent their membership status, including a sheaf of wheat pin for new members and a membership badge adorned with a ruby for initiated members.

Philanthropy

Alpha Omicron Pi actively participates in philanthropic efforts, primarily through its foundation, which focuses on arthritis research and support for those affected by the disease. Since 1967, AOII has partnered with the Arthritis Foundation, engaging in fundraising and volunteering initiatives. Notable campaigns include "AOII Goes Blue" for arthritis awareness and "Strike Out Arthritis!" (SOA), a signature fundraising event held in collaboration with Major League Baseball.

The fraternity adheres to several culture principles that guide its members in embodying the meaning of sisterhood. These principles include accountability, collaboration, engagement, innovation, and open communication, which help foster a positive and supportive environment for all members.

Conclusion

Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity, Inc. plays a significant role in the sorority landscape, promoting lifelong friendships and support among its members while championing vital causes like arthritis research.
