Guild of Creative Art

The Guild of Creative Art is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing excellence in the visual arts through teaching, exhibits, workshops, and special events. Founded by Yvonne Aubert in 1960, it is the oldest and largest art community in New Jersey[1][2].

History

Yvonne Aubert, a visionary in the art community, established the Guild to provide a meeting place for artists. Initially, she converted a five-car garage into a studio and exhibition hall. Over the years, the Guild has expanded to twice its original size, with a membership base of around 500 artists[2].

Purpose and Activities

The Guild operates as a cooperative, where all members—General, Associate, and Exhibiting—volunteer to assist in its administration. It is managed by a President and a Board of Directors, who are elected annually. The Guild offers a wide range of classes, workshops, and special events for members of all ages, from teens to adults. Instructors include outstanding local artists, and the organization has also hosted workshops by nationally known artists[1][2].

Membership and Exhibitions

Members can participate in Guild shows and rent gallery space. Exhibits at the Guild change monthly, with public receptions and all artwork available for sale. Twice a year, the Guild conducts a juried portfolio review, allowing General members to apply for Associate or Exhibiting Artist status[2].

Finances and Governance

The Guild survives on donations, workshop and class proceeds, sales commissions, fundraising events, and membership dues. It relies heavily on volunteers to keep operational costs low, which encourages community involvement. Donations to the organization are tax-deductible[2][3].

Professional Development

The Guild also serves as a Professional Development Provider, offering services aligned with the New Jersey Department of Education standards. This support is designed for teachers seeking professional development opportunities[4].
