About Us Programs Get Involved Meet the Dogs More Helping New York City Kids Build Empathy SelfEsteem and Resilience Kids Teaching Dogs Dogs Teaching Kids Photo The Dogist A Fair Shake for Youth helps New York City middle school students build social andemotional skills through a structured handson program with therapy dogs. Following a 10weekcurriculum students learn doghandling skills and discuss dogrelated topics that often resonate with their life experience animal shelters second chances and breed discrimination. They practice positive reinforcement see the power of verbal and nonverbal communication and build relationships based on trust and respect. The dogs are honest nonjudgmental and highly social making it safe for students to open up and learn about themselves and each other.
