For Eileen, the love of nursing has endured — for nearly 70 years. Since she graduated from St. Michael's Hospital in 1956, she has loved the profession. For 28 years, she raised her children, but since returning with a role at Southern Ocean County Hospital in 1989 she has never looked back. "My husband was dying," Eileen says. "He suggested it would be a good idea if I went back to nursing. It really was. It was such a help. It gave me something to do and motivated me." Eileen has worked in many areas since, from the floors and cardiac rehab to community outreach, but she has always maintained that same love of the career. Eileen's life has been all about caring for others, in the nearly three decades she wasn't a nurse as well as those she was. "For those years I stayed home, I don't regret a minute of it," she says. "I raised six great children, and now I have 30 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Three of them are getting married this year!" Nor does she regret a minute of the time since she returned. "I just love nursing," she says. At 90, Eileen can't see herself stopping anytime soon. "I always like to do things. I don’t like to sit around. I just love taking care of people and using my nursing skills." That's not all she does. "I’m active in the community. I work with the children in my church, I play bridge twice a week, I play golf, I visit my friends who are sick. I’m not home too often -- I keep myself busy!" She wouldn't change a thing, she says. "I’m very content with my life. I feel blessed. I'm very grateful for God for everything that He’s given me." We are grateful for everything Eileen has given us. #PeopleofHMH #NursesWeek (fb)
