Together, we are able! SCALE's mission is to improve the quality of life for people who have aphasia (or other communication impairments) and their families. The result of permanent brain damage, aphasia refers to various debilitating and isolating language disorders, mild to severe, affecting a person’s ability to speak, read, write, or understand, but not their intelligence or memory. SCALE strives to fullfil its mission through the following : 1) Providing the “life enhancing” environment of a that fosters successful living with aphasia and creates opportunities for individuals with aphasia to have social connections2) designed to support and empower SCALE members with their goals for communication improvement and re-engagement in life3) who care for those with aphasia by providing educational materials, training, and community support4) through community outreach and advocacy projects
