The first Little League games were played in 1939, involving three teams with thirty players. The league grew rapidly, with the first leagues outside Pennsylvania established in New Jersey in 1947. The organization expanded internationally, beginning with military installations in Panama in 1950 and the first permanent league in British Columbia, Canada, in 1951. By 1999, Little League had spread to over 100 countries.

Structure

The organization operates at four primary levels: local, district, regional, and international. Local leagues manage their own operations, with each having a board of directors, volunteers, and geographical boundaries that determine eligibility.
