A Brotherhood of Disciples Mission: The mission of Fraternus is to form boys into virtuous Catholic men. The program serves young men in grades 6-12. Men, young or old, will not grow in virtue in isolation. Fraternus brings them together by providing a program structure where brotherhood and mentoring can take place. In a similar vein, a sister program called Fidelis is being piloted for girls. The training in “True Mentorship” is very similar but is being adapted to more deeply reflect the “feminine genius.” The program and volunteers structure mirrors Fraternus. Training: The Three Steps of True Mentorship Through training, volunteers learn the importance of fatherhood and mentoring and the three steps of “True Mentorship.” Weekly “Frat Night” Program: The volunteers then carry out their mission through weekly “Frat Nights,” usually held at a parish facility or gymnasium. Through these weekly meetings, volunteers build friendships and eventually win the right to be trusted as a mentor. This experience of the outdoors is needed in a world saturated with media and materialism, especially in the teen years. Fraternus Excursions are designed with a common theme and goal, namely, learning about our true identify as men. The trips are organized as adventures and include a variety of outdoor activities where friendship can grow. Once a year the entire Fraternus Brotherhood comes together at the National Fraternus Ranch – a weeklong adventure and retreat that includes whitewater rafting, ropes and other team building activities.
