UMDF powers the research, education, & support that is advancing treatments for patients and families affected by mitochondrial disorders. The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation provides research and support for the mito community. To promote research and education for the diagnosis, treatment and cure of mitochondrial disorders and to provide support to affected individuals and families. Since 1996, UMDF has provided nearly $13 million in grants to support the research that may lead to a less invasive diagnosis and ultimately a cure. UMDF hosts an annual international symposium bringing together the best physicians and researchers for patients and family members to gain valuable information. We advocate on the national level and empower members to advocate on the local level regarding issues of medical funding and children's health issues as well as social services for the medically fragile and disabled. UMDF provides support to our affected patients and families through a dedicated staff partner.
