It's the FINAL week of our Spring Appeal! Together we have raised nearly $18,000 to support our year-round CSAs and community programming! Donate by May 31st at justroots.org/donate! UPDATE: Greenfield Savings Bank has generously offered a closing match donation of $5,000! If we can raise $30,000 from our community, they'll get us the rest of the way to $35,000! ––––––– Yesterday our Co-Executive Director, Meryl LaTronica, got to do something she hasn't done in a while. She spent the whole day on a tractor. For some of you reading, this may not seem like a dream. But for her, it was pure bliss! "The plowing was tough going. The fields were rough. Dry in places, too wet in others. Clunky. Choppy. I was discovering as I was going what the land was offering, how it was shaped and what it felt like as the steel cut through the ground, making waves behind me. I slowed down and sped up, carved edges and made fields where there once was a blank canvas. For a moment I thought, ‘Hey, I'm pretty good at this’. But what am I good at? The plowing? The driving? No. It was the courage, the creativity to see a wild, open space and to see the fields in it. To see the potential rows of winter squash and popcorn that we have planned for this land. To see next season's garlic. To see the crew hoeing and planting and taking care of this field. It turns out that I like creating spaces where we can grow." -Meryl Your contribution to our Spring Appeal helps us keep these tractors rolling, these new fields turning and our programs thriving. There is more to plow. More to plant. More to grow. Let’s do it together. (fb)
