On this day in 1956 Louis "Captain Lou" Oritz of the Buffalo Bisons had his crowning moment at the second game of a Sunday double-header against the Rochester Red Wings. He hit Johnny Mackinson's undefeated pitch far over the left-field screen for the Bisons' first grand slam homer of the season. On this day in 1949 Boulder Park in Indian Falls opened. The park boasted a Ferris wheel and several kiddie rides, but the main attraction was the carousel that had previously been at the New Rialto in Olcott. While sadly you can't visit Boulder Park anymore, catch a glimpse of, and learn a little about, the amusement park that thrilled families in Genesee County with this story from our Spring 2015 issue.
