Home - General Society of Colonial Wars General Society of Colonial Wars The Society of Colonial Wars was founded in New York in 1892 to further the interest in and study of Americas Colonial history for the period between the settlement of Jamestown Virginia on May 13 1607 and the battle of Lexington on April 19 1775. Americas Colonial Period Why is Americas Colonial period important today. Because of the foundational institutions and civic culture that were laid down between 1607 and 1775. Many of these attributes such as representative assemblies freedom of religion rule of law freedom of the press trial by jury etc.
