The Highbridge Community Development Corporation (HCDC) initially aimed to revitalize the area by addressing housing needs and supporting families. Highbridge Voices emerged as a distinct program, eventually becoming an independent non-profit entity in 2001. It was established in a converted parking garage beneath an HCDC housing project and has since evolved into a vital neighborhood institution.

Programs

Highbridge Voices offers an intensive choral music performance program, an academic program, and a combined music and academic program for younger children. The organization serves approximately 200 youth, ranging in age from 5 to 17. Students participate in programs at least four days a week, attending rehearsals, receiving private voice lessons, and taking classes in music history and theory. Additionally, they receive academic tutoring and other forms of educational support. The primary goals of Highbridge Voices include fostering social development and improving academic performance among participants.

Structure

The organization includes two principal choirs: the Concert Choir, comprising over 70 students aged 9 to 12, and the Chamber Choir, which consists of 50 students aged 12 to 18. These choirs prepare a challenging repertoire, including classical and contemporary pieces.
