Grable Foundation

It's been said that there is nothing like a dream to create the future. At The Grable Foundation, we dream that the Pittsburgh region earns repeated accolades as one of the nation's best places for kids...to learn, to play, to imagine, to experience, to grow. We recognize that we will be successful only to the extent that the youth-serving charities and schools we support achieve meaningful results. As such, The Grable Foundation invests in high-performing organizations that clearly advance our dreams. We utilize timely research and data as well as link organizations to one another so that, together, the Pittsburgh region will increasingly enrich the lives of all children.

Grable Foundation
Overview

The Grable Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1976, dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and youth in the greater Pittsburgh region. The foundation primarily focuses on supporting programs that address early childhood development, education in public schools, out-of-school time learning opportunities, family and caregiver support, and community development that promotes children's well-being.

Mission

The mission of the Grable Foundation is to help children and youth grow into independent, caring, and contributing members of society. This is achieved by supporting critical developmental programs in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Focus Areas
  • Early Childhood Development: The foundation emphasizes the importance of early learning experiences in high-quality settings, led by well-trained adults. This includes support for parents in encouraging their children's development.
  • Public School Education: Grable Foundation supports enhanced learning from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, aiming to ignite students' interests and prepare them for a successful future.
  • Out-of-School Time Learning: Afterschool, summer, and mentoring programs are encouraged to create opportunities for exploration, creativity, and meaningful connections with adults.
  • Family Support: The foundation promotes access to innovative learning spaces, community resources, and cultural events that support family well-being.
  • Community Development: Emphasis is placed on fostering a vibrant community with strong nonprofit organizations and robust resources to aid children's success.
Eligibility and Funding

Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations in southwestern Pennsylvania. The foundation does not accept proposals from individuals or organizations outside the region unless specifically invited. Applications require an initial letter of inquiry, with full proposals invited based on the foundation's review. Grant awards do not include indirect overhead costs, but justified direct administrative expenses can be considered.

Grant Process

The Grable Foundation Board of Trustees reviews grant requests three times annually. Inquiries must be submitted by specified deadlines, after which full proposals may be invited.

Impact

Through its support of local organizations, the Grable Foundation plays a significant role in shaping the educational and developmental landscape of southwestern Pennsylvania, aligning with its commitment to making the region an ideal place for children to grow and thrive.
