The organization's roots trace back to 1994 when Father Joseph Sserugo, a member of the Apostles of Jesus, began visiting St. Vincent DePaul parish in Richboro, Pennsylvania. Initially focused on raising awareness and support for missionary work in Darfur, Sudan, the visits eventually shifted towards building connections with Uganda. In 2006, a high school youth ministry group from the parish was inspired to visit Uganda after Father Sserugo extended an invitation during a mission appeal. This experience led to the formation of Building a Bridge to Uganda as a nonprofit corporation in September 2007[2].

The organization's mission centers on supporting education and spiritual development in Uganda. It achieves this by:

Educational Support:

• Pope John Paul II High School: In partnership with the Apostles of Jesus, the organization helped establish this school in Luwero, Uganda. It provides education to over 750 students and ranks among the top secondary schools in Uganda[4].
