Vantage Health System was founded in 1957 by Emma Stein, PhD, under the name of the Mental Health Organization of Dumont. Throughout the years, it has undergone several name changes, including Dumont-Bergenfield Child Guidance Center, The Child Guidance Center of Northern Valley, Inc., and The Community Center for Mental Health, Inc. In 1972, the organization began operations as a federally funded community mental health center with the construction of its main building.

The organization has expanded its services over the decades, opening the Northern Valley Adult Day Center in 1977, taking over operations in Englewood, and initiating supportive housing projects. In 2010, Vantage broke ground for the Van Sciver Supportive Housing Residence, marking a significant milestone in providing affordable housing options.
