Wilber found himself at the First Christian Church in Urbana. This church, located at 402 West Main Street, was designed by renowned local architect Joseph William Royer. The church was built in 1911 to replace the First Christian Church's wooden building across the street to the south. Over the years, the church has been home to many different congregations, most predominantly the Christian and Congregational denominations, and has been the Canaan Baptist Church since 1977, with their senior pastor Reverend B J Tatum.
