🌟 Celebrating Florence Price: Our 2024-2025 One Composer, One Community Featured Composer!🌟 One Composer, One Community, first launched at the Music Institute of Chicago in 2021, focuses on the life and work of a single underrepresented composer over the course of an academic year. Florence Price made history as the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer and to have her work performed by a major orchestra. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Frederick Stock, premiered her Symphony in E Minor on June 15, 1933. As we approach our Celebration Concert, we’ll be sharing weekly facts about her legacy! 📅 Join us on May 2 at Nichols Concert Hall for a Celebration Concert featuring performances from MIC students and faculty, with special remarks from scholars and interpreters of Price’s work.
