This morning at 9:15am both companies were dispatched to the area of Windwood Road to assist Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police with aiding a deer that was stranded about 40 yards out on the ice of Lake Lillinonah. Upon arrival of Candlewood Car 1, the deer had began an attempt to make its way back to shore. As crew members made their way onto the ice the deer had made it to the shoreline but was unable to navigate the steep embankment. Crew members reached and then assisted the uninjured deer up the embankment where it ran off seemingly healthy! We remind everyone that ice is never 100% safe due varying water levels and changing currents that can make ice thinner and inconsistent in many spots. (fb)

25 Years ago, Worcester MA lost 6 firefighters in the Line of Duty at a cold storage warehouse fire. While we do not regularly respond to cold storage fires, regional and national incidents remind us of the dangers encountered on a regular basis and how to avoid them. Today we remember the Wooster 6, and their supreme sacrifice that has saved an unknown number of firefighters. (fb)
