By The Way is a Non-profit that operates in developing nations assisting with project & organizational development, management assistance & funding allocation. Mission statement: Educate, equip and inspire a new generation to break free from the cycle of poverty throughout the world. At By The Way, we are aware the greatest hindrance to humanity is ignorance. People born into a civil society are raised with intrinsic knowledge of basic concepts. For example, animals need water and food to survive; plants need water and food to survive, etc. However, in developing nations where education is minimal, even the most basic of concepts are beyond their ability to reason. They need to be taught to water and feed the plants and animals if they expect them to grow. In one experiment we conducted with an agriculture and chicken project, the chickens were placed in a secure pen and the plants were planted nearby. As they were instructed daily to take water and provided food to the chickens daily and to water the plants every morning, the animals and plants thrived. Two weeks later everything (including the chickens) had died. When questioned, the responsible parties explained it was hot. When questioned about water, they simply shrugged and said, it did not occur to them they needed it everyday. It became a hard lesson to understand and created an awareness that they need to be taught to reason. They need to be taught how to plan. When they are not offered even a primary education, they need to be taught how to problem solve in an everyday process. This process is true in every aspect that keeps them enslaved to a poverty cycle that they do not have the knowledge or ingenuity to break free from. If they are raised in indigenous areas, speaking a tribal language, they are not able to communicate with anyone else. Some theorize, they are fine, leave them where they are. Unfortunately, the dictators and war lords do not subscribe to this utopian way of thinking and then have a full army and/or slave pool at their disposal. When you educate people, you arm them with abilities, you strengthen them with knowledge. They can conquer, if you will just let them learn.
