(PJF) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 corporation, that helps families in the tri-state area (NY, NJ & CT) who have a financial need due to their illness or disability. The PJF provides grants to qualifying families for health-related needs, as well as for family and household needs. The PJF was started back in 1991 for Paul Jackson, its president, who had had an operation to remove a spinal cord tumor and became paralyzed as a result. When Paul was discharged from the hospital and wanted to rehabilitate at an intensive physical therapy program, his insurance company refused to pay for it. Friends and family decided to organize several successful fundraisers to help Paul afford the therapy program. After Paul's needs were met, the good people involved decided to continue fundraising, with the hope of helping other's who had no place to turn when they needed it most. Today the PJF has helped 100's of people.
