Little Sisters of the Poor St Josephs Home for the Elderly
We follow the example set by our foundress, St Jeanne Jugan. Her humility in begging on behalf of the aged poor was supported by her strength in faith and love of the elderly. As Little Sisters of the Poor, we dedicate our lives to the loving service of the aged poor, continuing the legacy of our foundress, Blessed Jeanne Jugan. Mindful that we serve the Lord in the Poor, we seal our dedication by a special fourth vow of hospitality. We welcome the elderly, regardless of race or religion, who have limited financial means or social support and who find it difficult to maintain their independence with dignity. Regular income does not cover the cost of care. We rely on God’s providence and community contribution for the essential daily operation of the home as we strive to meet the physical, medical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of our Residents. In a family atmosphere, the continuum of care offered ensures that the Residents can remain in the home as their needs increase. We want our Residents to experience that they are both loved and needed. Our Residents also know that the Little Sisters will be at their side, maintaining a prayerful and attentive presence along with them, to accompany them spiritually and assist them in their last moments here on earth. The Elderly derive strength and peace from this assurance. The quality and spirit of this dedication is instilled in those who collaborate with us in this mission. We believe that through their selfless charity, a channel of grace is opened in the souls of our benefactors. At present, the Little Sisters of the Poor are in 32 countries around the world, with 30 homes in the United States.
