Retina Foundation of the Southwest, a 2024 Service for Sight grant recipient, is home to the Crystal Charity Ball Pediatric Vision Laboratory. The Lab aims to optimize visual outcomes for children with congenital and early-onset eye conditions. Amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (misaligned eyes) are the most common pediatric eye conditions affecting 4% of children. If not detected and treated early, children with these conditions will experience permanent vision loss and lifelong adverse effects on reading, coordination, social skills, self-esteem and quality of life. The 2024 Service for Sight grant supported a program providing low-cost vision screenings for 150 children under the age of five. Kati Fratesi, Delta Kappa-South Florida, has dedicated the past 16 years to championing Delta Gamma’s Service for Sight philanthropy while pursuing her passion for running. This month, she will compete in the Boston Marathon to earn her Six Star Medal — an accomplishment that combines both of her passions. Beyond the race, Kati is making a meaningful impact as a member of Team With A Vision’s Boston Marathon charity team, raising funds to support the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI).
