Phi Theta Kappa
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is not a fraternity but a nationally recognized honor society for two-year colleges and community colleges in the United States. However, it is often mistakenly referred to as one due to some of its practices.
History
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society was founded in 1918 at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. The organization was officially recognized in 1929 as the premier honor society for two-year colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Over the years, PTK has grown to have a presence at nearly every community college in the U.S.
Mission
The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize the academic achievements of college students and provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders. Membership is by invitation only and requires high academic achievement. PTK emphasizes leadership development, academic excellence, and community service.
