Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America

The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America (BMDCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the health, welfare, and well-being of Bernese Mountain Dogs in the United States. Founded in 1968, it functions as the licensed parent breed club for Bernese Mountain Dogs within the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Organization

The BMDCA is governed by a Board of 10 Officers and Directors who are elected by the membership to serve two-year terms. The organization establishes various committees to handle its responsibilities, including Breeder Education, Health, Judges Education, Drafting, Agility, Performance, and Recognition.

Regional Clubs

BMDCA has numerous Regional Bernese Mountain Dog Clubs that provide a network of support for Bernese Mountain Dog owners across the country. These regional clubs offer events such as conformation matches, Draft Tests, educational programs, and social gatherings.

Activities and Initiatives

• Publications: The BMDCA publishes an award-winning quarterly magazine called The Alpenhorn, which covers all aspects of Bernese Mountain Dog ownership. Additionally, it publishes a comprehensive Information Series covering topics like "Frequently Asked Questions," "Health," and "Buying Tips."
• National Specialty: The BMDCA hosts a yearly National Specialty event that features conformation, companion, performance, and draft events, along with health clinics and social gatherings.
• Health Initiatives: The organization actively supports canine health research and works to improve the health and longevity of Bernese Mountain Dogs through initiatives like the Berner-Garde Foundation DNA Tissue and Repository.
