𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝗻: 𝘚𝘢𝘯 𝘋𝘪𝘦𝘨𝘰 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘙𝘦𝘯𝘵-𝘚𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘭𝘨𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘮𝘴 The passing of San Diego’s rental price-fixing ban is a major step toward protecting housing as a human right. In this short message, Kimberly shares what this victory means for our community—and why it’s just the beginning of our fight for dignity and justice. At Think Dignity, we believe housing is a human right—not a commodity. That’s why we’re proud to share a major step forward: on April 15, the San Diego City Council passed the Prohibition of Anti-Competitive Automated Rent Price-Fixing Ordinance, banning corporate landlords from using rent-setting algorithms to artificially inflate housing costs. These algorithms have contributed to displacement, deepened affordability challenges, and undermined access to dignified housing—especially for marginalized and historically excluded communities. This bold policy change reflects the values at the heart of our Housing as a Human Right campaign: • Centering Equity by protecting working families, low-income renters, and vulnerable communities from profit-driven pricing practices. • Combating Homelessness by addressing systemic barriers that push people out of stable housing. • Promoting Accountability by ensuring that housing policies prioritize people, not corporate profits. This victory is a testament to the power of collective action—and a reminder that systemic change is possible when communities stand together and demand better. We’re proud to stand with the grassroots organizers, renters, and community leaders—including our allies at Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera’s office (District 9)—who made this happen. As we continue our work, Think Dignity remains committed to creating a future where safe, stable, and affordable housing is a reality for all.
