Here are 5 simple ways to safely intervene: Direct – Call it out. “Hey, that’s not appropriate. Please stop.” Distract – Shift the focus. “Hey, I think you dropped something,” or “Can you help me find the next stop?” Delegate – Get someone else involved. “Hey bartender, that person looks uncomfortable — can you check on them?” Delay – Check in afterward. “I saw what happened — are you okay? Do you need anything?” Document – Record (only if safe!) and offer it to the person harmed. “I caught it on video in case you want to report it — how can I send it to you?” The 5 Ds give you real options to support others without putting yourself at risk.
