1700 Bergen Street Restoration: Then & Now  🏠  Weeksville’s Historic Hunterfly Road Houses are undergoing a major restoration thanks to the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA). From early restoration efforts captured back in 1981 to the critical repairs and upgrades happening today, we honor the generations of skilled workers who’ve worked to safeguard these landmark homes for the future. While times have changed, history has a way of repeating itself. These houses stand as a testament to the resilience and self-determination of Weeksville’s free Black community in 19th-century Brooklyn—and remind us of the ongoing need to preserve our stories and spaces.
