From Eating Disorders Review Journal: Emotion Regulation in Adolescence Emotion regulation (ER) is the ability to exert control over one’s own emotional state, to change one’s emotions by altering thoughts or behaviors, and to increase positive emotion, decrease negative emotion, or both. Eating and weight problems frequently coexist, and overweight/obese teens have a greater risk of developing an eating disorder than do their normal-weight peers.
