Description

Motion Project Foundation Inc

Motion Project Foundation Inc is a nonprofit organization based in Cheektowaga, New York, dedicated to assisting individuals who have suffered spinal cord injuries and their families. Established with the mission to inspire those affected by spinal cord injuries to overcome their challenges, the foundation promotes physical independence and provides emotional support and comprehensive rehabilitation resources.

History and Background

The foundation was founded by Natalie Marie Barnhard, a physical therapist assistant and licensed massage therapist, who herself sustained a spinal cord injury in 2004. Drawing from her personal experience with the difficulties of obtaining rehabilitation therapy, medical equipment, and home modifications, Barnhard established the organization to address these critical needs for others facing similar circumstances. The foundation was originally known as Wheels With Wings Foundation before becoming Motion Project Foundation.

Mission and Vision

Motion Project Foundation aims to facilitate recovery and improve the quality of life for individuals with spinal cord injuries by:

  • Providing funding for medical equipment, home and vehicle modifications, and intensive rehabilitation therapies.
  • Offering advocacy, care navigation, and emotional support.
  • Promoting physical independence and hope for those affected by spinal cord injuries.

The foundation envisions creating a dedicated center for spinal cord injury rehabilitation and recovery in Western New York, where clients can access state-of-the-art equipment, exceptionally trained therapists, and research-driven care. This vision culminated in the opening of the Natalie Barnhard Center for Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation and Recovery, a facility designed to support clients through their recovery journeys.

Programs and Services

Motion Project Foundation provides financial assistance to cover:

  • Intense therapy rehabilitation programs.
  • Adaptive medical equipment such as Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) bikes.
  • Home and vehicle modifications to accommodate physical challenges.
  • Advocacy services to help individuals navigate healthcare and support systems.

The foundation also engages in community outreach to raise awareness about spinal cord injuries and the resources available for recovery.

  • Natalie Barnhard, President and Executive Director, Founder.
  • Kevin English, Chairman.
