Established on December 27, 1813, in Knoxville, Tennessee, this organization has a rich history and significant presence in the state.

Background

Freemasonry in Tennessee began in 1789 with the establishment of St. Tammany Lodge #1 in Nashville under dispensation from the Grand Lodge of North Carolina. By the early 19th century, several lodges were chartered by the Grand Lodge of North Carolina, eventually leading to the formation of the Grand Lodge of Tennessee.

The Grand Lodge of Tennessee was formed by nine Masonic lodges operating within the state. The first officers included Thomas Claiborne as Grand Master, George Wilson as Deputy Grand Master, and other notable figures in Tennessee's General Assembly.
