The 60 foot 5 inch long Sentinel Pine Covered Bridge was constructed in 1939. The tree that gave the bridge its name was over 90 feet tall 5 feet in diameter and estimated to be 100 years old when it was blown over in the 1938 hurricane. Workers used other trees that were blown down to construct the footbridge over the pine to protect and preserve it.
