Our Eighth Grade San Antonio trip was envisioned in 2010 when we founded our school with 180 Prek - Second Grade Students. Since 2017, we have been taking our students to San Antonio as a culmination of middle school. This year, the capstone trip included a tour of the historic Alamo, a college visit to the University of Texas at San Antonio led by first-generation college students, and an underground geology lesson at the Natural Bridge Caverns complete with ziplining! Students also engaged in cultural experiences at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, where they created piñatas and paper flowers, participated in student-led talking circles, and explored Chicano culture. They hiked the Japanese Tea Gardens, practiced their Spanish ordering tacos, stumbled upon a lowrider car meetup, and capped off their trip with a visit to a Texas rodeo. (fb)
