About the organization

The society was formed in 1968 to locate a home for the DAR Museum pieces which were housed in the Howell Carnegie Library by the DAR chapter. The library needed space to expand its childrens department. The society housed the artifacts in the upper level of the Old Howell House owned by the Pettibones. In 1971 the society purchased the Depot which had been vacant since passenger rail service ended in the 1951.
